The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China said Wednesday that operating conditions for European companies in the country have become “increasingly challenging,” and called for an end to restrictions of foreign investment and government intervention in industry.
In an executive summary of its annual position paper, the EU Chamber of Commerce called for China to create a level playing field for all businesses operating in the country, saying it is crucial to China’s economic success in the long run.
The members of the chamber “remain confident in the Chinese market and optimistic about their business prospects here, despite the impact of the economic crisis,” the chamber said.
However, the chamber said the foreign companies operating in China that it surveyed “are increasingly concerned by the tendency for local companies to be favored over foreign-invested ones.”
