China to Obama: Cancel Meeting with Dalai Lama

From USA Today:

China has responded to the scheduling of Thursday’s meeting between President Obama and the Dalai Lama — and they want it canceled.

“We urge the U.S. side to fully understand the high sensitivity of Tibet-related issues, honor its commitment to recognizing Tibet as part of China and opposing ‘Tibet independence,'” said China Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu.

The Obama-Dalai Lama meeting is one of several sources of tension between the U.S. and China, a list that includes new arms sales to Tawain, Chinese currency manipulation and evidence of Chinese hack attacks on Google… “We think we have a mature enough relationship with the Chinese,” [White House spokesperson Robert Gibbs] said. “We can agree on issues that are of mutual interest, but we also have a mature enough relationship that we know that two countries on this planet are not always going to agree on everything.”
