The ability of people such as Ai Weiwei to speak their mind, and call attention to subjects which would otherwise not be noted is of importance to the entire international community. Not to mention that the beauty that he creates is beneficial to the hearts and minds of all who see it, he needs to be free both for himself, and for everyone else.

As Ai WieWie has said “A country that rejects truth, refuses change, and lacks a spirit of hope is hopeless”. China’s flux between socialism and capitalism invigorates the country’s sense of alarm. The government’s biggest fear is people who ask questions. People who do not accept status quo, feel the need to know the truth, and will ultimately do everything they possibly can to get this. Ai WieWie states the situation very logically, “They are fragile enough to believe that one dissenting voice could bring down their mighty force”.

Being a Chinese student coming from Mainland China, I am inspired to see a organization like Change.org that engages people in public issue that need attention. As there are updates about the issue, it actually shows us the impact we make. Or at least, how the issue has moved forward. This is another way to engage the public. I wish China has a organization like this who will become a platform so that people could express their opinion and can gather together to shape out a better society. Incident like Ai Weiwei definitely needs attention and buzz around it. I think especially dealing with topic that related to China, there is a social media site called Weibo, which I think Change.org should add the link to so that the Chinese could spread the word around. There are ways around the censorship, the Chinese would have access to almost everything. Hope this would change to generates a bigger public attention.
