Dear Murong Xuecun
I write to warmly invite you to be a guest of the 2009 Sydney Writers’ Festival
that will take place over from 18 to 24 May next year.
Sydney Writers’ Festival is Australia’s leading celebration of literature and ideas
and is now the third biggest annual literary festival in the world. Audience
attendance at each SWF exceeds 80,000 over the week-long event, and each year
the Festival is host to more than 400 writers from Australia and around the world.
The Festival is renowned for its outstanding programming which includes the very
best of contemporary fiction, in addition to a cutting edge non-fiction component
featuring many of the world’s leading public intellectuals, politicians and policy
makers. Sydney audiences are engaged and enthusiastic, and come out in large
numbers for their writers’ festival.
With an excellent media profile in Sydney, nationally and overseas that is
independently valued at over A$12M each year, the Festival is also famous for its
iconic setting on Sydney’s harbour and the warm hospitality offered to all writers.
We are also Australia’s first climate friendly literary festival and all Festival
operations, including flights, are carbon offset. More information about past
guests, programs and the Festival can be found at www.swf.org.au.
Should you be able to accept our invitation, the Festival will provide economy air
travel to Sydney, luxury accommodation on Sydney’s spectacular harbour, as well
as a per diem allowance and a speaker’s fee for each event in which you
You would be asked to participate in approximately four Festival events and your
sessions would programmed in consultation with you.
I hope we might host you in Sydney next May as a guest of the Festival, and look
forward to hearing from you.
