The “nine elders” refers to the nine members of the standing committee of the Politburo of the Communist Party: Hu Jintao (胡锦涛),Wu Bangguo (吴邦国),Wen Jiabao (温家宝),Jia Qinglin (贾庆林),Li Changchun (李长春),Xin Jinping (习近平),Li Keqiang (李克强),He Guoqiang (贺国强),Zhou Yongkang (周永康).  The nine elders represent the ultimate decision-making body within the Chinese government.

The nine members of the Politburo Standing Committee (PSC) from to 2002 to 2012: Hu Jintao, Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang, and Zhou Yongkang. The “nine elders” represented the ultimate decision-making body within the Chinese government.

The number of PSC members was reduced to seven in the 2012-2013 leadership transition.
