下意识开枪 (xià yì shi kāi qiāng): subconsciously fired

On September 21, 2012, a police officer in Panjin, Liaoning province fired six shots at an unarmed villager during a conflict over the forced demolition of his home. The death of the villager was the latest in series of fatalities surrounding forced demolitions.

On September 25, 2012, this police officer gave interviews with the media during which he said that while surrounded by relatives of the deceased, he "subconsciously fired." Netizens ridiculed and parodied this explanation.
