These are the words of China\u2019s online \u201cresistance discourse,\u201d used to mock and subvert the official language around censorship and political correctness.<\/em><\/p>\n <\/a>\u8d35\u56fd (gu\u00ec gu\u00f3): expensive country <\/a><\/p>\n A sarcastic reference to China. This term was popularized because of discontent over high prices; gui guo<\/em> is a country in which basic needs like housing, fuel, power, and healthcare are all too costly.<\/p>\n Gui<\/em> is also the honorific form of \u201cyour\u201d; gui guo,<\/em> literally \u201cyour honorable country,\u201d is often used in diplomatic speech.
