On December 5, prominent micro-blogger and Worker’s Daily magazine’s editorial director Shi Shusi posted observations on the current state of Weibo to his personal account (via Liz Carter):

Weibo: 1. Fewer Big Vs, more official accounts; 2. Lots of brain-damaged morons drop their careers to become Fifty Centers; 3. Those public intellectuals who remain are either lurking or making egg drop soup for the soul; 4. In addition to showing themselves off, celebrities have started to sell merchandise; 5. Good vibes about public welfare and the grassroots suddenly grows, while social gaps widen; 6. It is now safe to criticize the weather and ridicule the smog; 7. If you’re feeling suppressed, you can take the piss out of flight attendants, or help Wang Feng make the headlines; 8. You stay because there really is no other place to go.

Shi’s followers quickly chimed in, and CDT has translated a few of their comments:

Who would dare to be a Big V if they’ll immediately investigate to see if you’re a whoremonger?

K：Brain-damaged morons have gone off and become public intellectuals.

You stay because you can’t go.
