Agence France-Presse reports that China’s Ministry of Education has unveiled new rules banning textbooks that promote western values<\/strong><\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cNever let textbooks promoting western values appear in our classes,\u201d minister Yuan Guiren said, according to a report late Thursday by China\u2019s official Xinhua news agency.<\/p>\n \u201cRemarks that slander the leadership of the Communist Party of China\u201d and \u201csmear socialism\u201d must never appear in college classrooms, he added according to Xinhua.<\/p>\n China\u2019s universities are run by the ruling Communist party, which tightly controls discussions of history and other topics it construes as a potential threat to its grip on power.
