Hu Chunhua\u2014aka “Little Hu,” a reference to similarities between his own career path and that of his mentor, former president Hu Jintao\u2014became a member of the CCP Politburo<\/a> and the\u00a0Party chief of Guangdong Province in late 2012<\/a>. While the leader was once expected\u00a0to rise to the Politburo Standing Committee<\/a> in 2017, a report from\u00a0the South China Morning Post suggests that is now only a remote possibility<\/strong><\/a>:<\/p>\n “There were considerations as to when Hu would return to Beijing as a Politburo Standing Committee member \u2026 but the prospect no longer looks so rosy,” Guangzhou Academy of Social Sciences researcher Dr Peng Peng said.<\/p>\n A prominent Guangzhou political columnist said: “It’s [President Xi Jinping’s ] world now.
