Former New Yorker China correspondents Evan Osnos and Peter Hessler have written about their experiences publishing Chinese versions of their China-related books. Osnos chose not to publish a translation <\/a>of his book, Age of Ambition: Chasing Fortune, Truth, and Faith in the New China<\/a> on the mainland after the publishers requested certain parts be excised. Hessler, on the other hand, published two books, River Town: Two Years on the Yangtze<\/a> and Country Driving: A Chinese Road Trip<\/a> with a mainland publisher and embarked on a book tour in China. He described the process and trip in an article<\/a>, “Travels with my Censor.” <\/p>\n Both writers discuss their decisions and the complexities involved<\/strong><\/a> with publishing, or not, in China:<\/p>\n On this week\u2019s Out Loud, Hessler and Osnos join Amelia Lester and discuss the decision about whether to comply with censorship in China.
