As part of a crackdown on student and labor activism,<\/span> dozens of students and graduates of elite Chinese universities<\/span><\/a> have since August \u201c<\/span>been<\/span><\/a> disappeared,\u201d some <\/span>\u201ckidnapped\u201d from public university campuses<\/span><\/a>. Many of those detained in August and November roundups were Marxist activists\u2013like<\/span> Yue Xin<\/span><\/a> and<\/span> Sun Min<\/span><\/a>, both<\/span> Peking University<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(PKU)\u00a0graduates\u2013who had been actively supporting workers to establish an independent trade union in Shenzhen. In addition to several pieces by<\/a> or about Yue<\/a> and Sun<\/a>, CDT has previously translated PKU student<\/span> Feng Junjie\u2019s account of being beaten by thugs on campus<\/span><\/a> during a November 9 episode, and also a classmate’s recounting of the earlier<\/span> disappearance of PKU medical student Jia Shijie<\/span><\/a> and the university’s efforts to deflect student inquiry into their classmate’s whereabouts. Students at Renmin University have also been punished by university administration for their support of the workers rights movement<\/a>, leading<\/span> Cornell University to cancel two exchange programs<\/span><\/a> with the Chinese institution out of concern.<\/span><\/p>\n
