{"id":31591,"date":"2009-01-22T10:56:25","date_gmt":"2009-01-22T17:56:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chinadigitaltimes.net\/?p=31591"},"modified":"2009-01-22T10:59:50","modified_gmt":"2009-01-22T17:59:50","slug":"death-sentence-in-milk-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chinadigitaltimes.net\/2009\/01\/death-sentence-in-milk-trial\/","title":{"rendered":"Death Sentence in Milk Trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three men have been sentenced to death for their role in the <a href=\"http:\/\/chinadigitaltimes.net\/tag\/milk-contamination\/\">tainted milk scandal<\/a>, while Tian Wenhua, former chairwoman of the Sanlu Group, has been given a life sentence. <a href=\"http:\/\/english.caijing.com.cn\/2009-01-22\/110050778.html\"><strong>From Caijing<\/strong><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>On the afternoon of January 22, the Intermediate People&#8217;s Court in Shijiazhuang announced a death penalty sentence for Zhang Yujun, who sold 600 tons of a mixture containing the industrial chemical melamine to dairy farmers and dealers as a means of boosting protein readings. Zhang&#8217;s workshop was allegedly China&#8217;s largest source of melamine and earned him 6.8 million yuan.<\/p>\n<p> Also sentenced to death was milk producer Geng Jinping, who had been convicted of producing and selling toxic food to dairy companies.<\/p>\n<p>Gao Junjie, another melamine producer, received a  suspended  death sentence with two years reprieve.<\/p>\n<p>Besides Tian, another two former deputy general managers of Sanlu, Wang Yuliang and Hang Zhiqi, received 15 years and 8 years in prison, respectively.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>See also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/01\/23\/world\/asia\/23milk.html?_r=1&#038;hp\">a report on the sentences<\/a> from the New York Times.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three men have been sentenced to death for their role in the tainted milk scandal, while Tian Wenhua, former chairwoman of the Sanlu Group, has been given a life sentence.
