{"id":38729,"date":"2009-05-12T20:23:03","date_gmt":"2009-05-13T03:23:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chinadigitaltimes.net\/?p=38729"},"modified":"2009-05-12T20:23:22","modified_gmt":"2009-05-13T03:23:22","slug":"child-labor-alleged-at-factory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chinadigitaltimes.net\/2009\/05\/child-labor-alleged-at-factory\/","title":{"rendered":"Child Labor Alleged at Factory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rfa.org\/english\/news\/uyghur\/underageworkers-05112009162537.html\">investigation by RFA<\/a> found that underage Uighur workers are being employed by the Taiwanese-owned Longfa Shoe Factory, which supplies shoes for Nike:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nWhile the legal working age in China is 16, Nike\u2019s code of conduct states that its contractors do not \u201cemploy any person below the age of 18 to produce footwear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Spokesmen for Nike and for Longfa Shoe Factory denied the allegation and said hiring underage workers would violate company policies.<\/p>\n<p>But some workers at the factory say they were sent to work at age 15 or 16.
