In recent weeks, two very familiar household names in China\u2014Nobel prize-winning novelist <\/span>Mo Yan<\/span><\/a> and bottled water company <\/span>Nongfu Spring<\/span><\/a>\u2014have <\/span>come under fire from extreme Chinese nationalists<\/span><\/a>, who have accused the pair of odd bedfellows of being insufficiently patriotic and overly pro-Japanese. In Mo Yan\u2019s case, the controversy originated with <\/span>a nationalist blogger who filed a court order<\/span><\/a> to stop the acclaimed novelist from \u201cdefaming\u201d China\u2019s heroes and martyrs.<\/span> Nongfu Spring\u2019s troubles began with <\/span>rumors of a business rivalry<\/span><\/a> with another Chinese bottled water company (the <\/span>Wahaha Group<\/span><\/a>), snowballed into accusations that the company was <\/span>too pro-Japanese<\/span><\/a>, and culminated in an announced <\/span>boycott of Nongfu Spring products by 7-Eleven stores in China<\/span><\/a>.
