Beloved equally for his savvy and modesty, he is also the frequent victim of censorship. His posts often vanish hours after they are first published, and he has been forced to [[reincarnate]] his account so often that one fan has dubbed him "the man most deeply hurt by WeChat" ([http://chinadigitaltimes.net/chinese/2016/09/%E4%BA%BA%E7%89%A9live-%E7%8E%8B%E4%BA%94%E5%9B%9B%EF%BC%9A%E6%88%91%E4%B8%8D%E5%AE%B3%E6%80%95-%E6%88%91%E4%BB%8E%E6%9D%A5%E6%B2%A1%E5%81%9A%E9%94%99%E8%BF%87%E4%BB%80%E4%B9%88/ 被微信伤害最深的男人]). Wang was born in Yantai, Shandong in 1982, and graduated from Shandong University in 2005. Upon graduation, he took a marketing job in Shenzhen, but left for Hangzhou six months later to pursue his college girlfriend, and has stayed there ever since. He has been a screenwriter for a Hangzhou animation company and a media manager for Tencent and Phoenix Media. He is now COO of the produce delivery start-up Variety Market ([http://www.ebrun.com/20170301/219330.shtml 花样菜场]), which he also co-founded. While working full-time, Wang launched his first public WeChat account in 2014. He has since attracted hundreds of thousands of loyal followers, who have learned to scavenge for his essays and save what they can find. Wang's work has even popped up on the adult forum [https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E8%8D%89%E6%A6%B4%E7%A4%BE%E5%8C%BA Caoliu]. Wang does not shy away from politically sensitive topics—he usually rushes for them head-on. When a [http://chinadigitaltimes.net/2016/05/drawing-news-ill-copy-constitution-sleep/ couple copied China's constitution on their wedding night[ in 2016, Wang joked that "[[foreign (hostile) forces|hostile foreign forces]] will certainly exploit this" and cautioned Communist Party members to "take a stand." In a critique of the [[http://chinadigitaltimes.net/2017/01/minitrue-control-comments-spring-festival-gala/ 2017 CCTV Spring Festival Gala]], Wang begins, "As I was writing this, I knew it would not be able to evade deletion, because they aren't allowing any criticism of this year's Gala. But I still had to write it. It is my destiny." Wang started writing about social issues on his university BBS forum, where he went by his video game user name Wang Xiaosan (王小三).
