性工作者，有兩種意思：狹義的性工作者是指為他人提供性服務以获得报酬的人，例如妓男与妓女；廣義的性工作者則包含在色情產業中表演性行為的人，例如男性色情演員与女性色情演員。 人們從事性工作的原因是多樣的，有被以暴力所迫，有為生計所需，為了改善生活，擺脫貧窮，也有為滿足自身性需求或物質需求而自願從事性工作。加拿大透過調查收集了性工作者加入性行業的各種原因，在加拿大的研究報告中有一部分的人認為性行業是一份不錯的工作，然而這與之認為性工作者都是受害者，被脅迫和逼迫的觀念相互矛盾，在研究中表明，部分性工作者選擇性行業，是因為相比低薪的基層工作，性工作薪資更多。有少部分的人是因為對性行業的好奇心而嘗試性工作。(维基百科性工作者)
