社会崩溃（也称为文明崩溃）是指复杂社会的衰落和失序，其特征是社会的文化認同和作為調節系統的复杂性丧失、政府垮台和暴力兴起。社会崩溃的原因有自然灾害、战争、瘟疫、饥荒、经济崩溃、人口銳減或过剩、大规模移民、敌对文明的破坏或同化。文明经历过社会崩溃後可能会恢复到原始状态，也可能被同化到一个更强大的社会（文明）中，甚至完全消失。 几乎所有文明，无论其规模或复杂程度如何，都曾经发生过社会崩溃，中国、印度、埃及等文明能在崩溃后复兴。 （维基百科：社会溃败）
