在网上流传最广的中文翻译，应是从记录于美国波士顿新英格兰大屠杀纪念物（纪念碑）上的版本翻译过来的，这一英文版本如下：
They came first for the Communists,

and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.
