Dear Sir Mr. Cai Wu, I am very concerned by the development of the case of the artist Ai Weiwei, since I consider the art as one of the most needed field of human acts and the one, where the freedom of acting is unquestionable. By this letter I appreciate and ask for release of Ai Weiwei. Without art is no freedom. Controlled art is no art. Sincerely, Marketa Strnadova, Prague, Czech Republic

Artists are very important. Together with the scientists they search for, and make, the shape of the future. Without artists and scientists there would have not been any human devellopment. We would still have been in the state of animals. China can be very proud to have deliverded one of the most important and influential artists of the modern world in the figure of Ai Wei Wei. But he was taken out and send to the interrogation-rooms of Chinese prison, completely defendless and rightless as if individuals, people, are owned by the state,.. and can be taken out of daily life just because they thinks different..? The Big China shows a very narrowminded side here. A fear that is illustrating the awareness of being on the wrong side of personal devellopment. But history shows this behaviour is allways contra-productive as it attracts the worlds full interest. The full spotlights are on Ai Wei Wei now. Ai Wei Wei has grown out to be an icon of freedom and China stands with the grin of somebody having a big problem. How to safe the face of China ? Right now , and as long as Ai Wei Wei is in custody, China is in the accused-stand. MAY HE STAY WELL AND MAY WE HEAR HIM SPEAK AND SEE HIS WORKS SOON AGAIN!!

TO: The Chinese Government. Your medieval policies are like quicksand, revised at whim, deployed by force, and impenetrable in their bureaucratic logic. There is before you, to use a genuine communal metaphor, a long row to hoe, before you are given genuine respect by the internatonal community; the false respect you now engender is that delivered to you by your lackeys, and by international suitors clamoring for favorable business deals. One important step on the road to your enlightenment would be to stop the infernal practice of surprise arrests, confinement and torture of your most outspoken citizens. Ai Weiwei is trying to show you the way to your much-needed sartori. His arrest is so obviously foul and obscene that it was immediately apparent, even to one as distant as myself. Every time you beat him or humiliate him, the shadow of a wound grows darker on your smug complexion. I’m sorry not to be more humble in my supplications, but I believe we’re well past the point of begging your pardon. Release Ai Weiwei immediately, and show the world that the Chinese government is not only powerful but also morally strong.
