To the Chinese Government, We are watching you! It is sad to see your reaction, when an artist’s views are more enlightened about civilization than his country’s governing people are ready to accept. Instead of welcoming his comments as insightful and working to better your society you have taken the archaic manner to silence him. Ai Wei Wei is an enlightened, sensitive man and free thinker who only cares for what is fair and just, free and honest. Let him free to go without charge, thereby without bringing further embarassment to yourselves. Sincerely, Susan Collacott

My Dear Chinese Friends who I love as much as I love the Italians, I dont know if you remember me but back in the days of WW2 we fought shoulder to shoulder against them Japanese (But that was after I as in Europe Fightin the NAZIS). I have some good memories of you china men and women too who did a great job beating them Japanese and sending them home crying to their Emperor. I remember that when we were fightin against the Japanese, the Chinese soldiers were saying that we were doing it for the Children of the future. I agree with that 100%. Well, about this Ai WeiWei fellow….He is one of the children that grew up in a nice safe China that we helped make free from the Japanese. I know his Photos made some people mad, but it seems he’s just a little immature…Still a Kid in his mind who is trying to get some attention. (Now, I work around So Called “Artists” all the time and I can tell you that they are always trying to get attention from somebody). So, why not just let him go out and play again? I think he really loves China and he was just trying to get some attention, thats all. After all, China is a great place. He is proof of what a great Place it is. He may have some ideas that make some people mad at him but I think if you look at him as a little playful child you will see that I am right. I thank you in advance for your Kind consiideration of this Matter and thank you for them real nice Olympic games and for letting my favorite Director, Georgio Moroder do the presentation of some of it.

I ask that the Chinese government reconsider its decision to imprison or attempt to silence people who speak out for change in China. A government that is strong enough to allow dissent is worthy of the respect of its people and the global community; a government that resorts to force and coercion is not.

I dream of owning just one sunflower seed from the collection. Each seed is testament to the power of art, to engage whole communities and unite people. Each seed brought wealth and pride to depressed communities, these communities are the same the world over. Ai did no more than highlight this through his work. It doesn’t show China’s weakness but speaks of parity across the World.

No one has the right to live at another’s expense, and you can’t cage the human spirit forever. The Chinese government acts out of fear, not strength, and is illegitimate as a government because it does not protect the rights of its own people by enforcing its own constitution. Every time it points its crooked finger at anyone else, I know it is guilty of that of which it so sanctimoniously accuses others. Stability is not the same as Peace, and we are rapidly approaching the point at which one can either get on board or get out of its way. Where there is fear, sin lies at your door.

The first thing we learn as we grow up is no matter what others think or do even say that may hurt another is to take it as a grain of salt as it is and hold your head high cry when you need to, pray, meditate, thank God for the bad as well as the good things that happen, but most of all remember truth and love never gives up hope, never quits and most of all LOVE NEVER FAILS. My husband and I will now be searching the products we buy for a made in China sticker or writing, if it says “Made in China” we will put it back. We will also encourage our family and friends to do the same. It will be difficult but I would rather find other products than support the economy of a country that enslaves its people, limits freedom and attempts to quiet those that attempt to stand up to the governments wrong and misplaced authority.

Do that which is good, and peaceful, will bring about the same. To do evil agains’t another soul is an act done out of selfishness which will cause stress and illness, and tormenting fear to one that causes harm on others.
