Wife of Huang Qi says her husband has been beaten and tortured

Zeng Li–wife of Huang Qi, a jailed ‘cyber dissident’ in China–gave an exclusive interview with a French TV station on 20 November, detailing her husband’s abuse at the hands of Chinese authorities. She has only been allowed to see him once in Oct 2003 since his imprisonment over 3 years ago, and she fears that he won’t be released when his sentence has expired. Huang Qi ‘s so-called crime was that he published articles on the web “by foreign-based dissidents about the Tiananmen Square massacre.” Since his arrest, Zeng Li has felt her life is “under surveillance”, and her husband, concerned about his family’s safety, has urged her to take their son and leave China.
