Browsers Unbounded by Lantern

The Browsers Unbounded, launched by the nonprofit organization Lantern, aims to provide a secure bridge for people around the world who want to freely access information.

When you toggle the switch in the sidebar, Lantern users in censored regions will connect to your IP using WebRTC, and you will act as a bridge between them and Lantern’s servers. Lantern ensures that all connections are end-to-end encrypted.

Indeed, by participating, you will expose your IP to Lantern users in censored regions. However, your IP address is also exposed to any website you visit while surfing the internet. To ensure your data security, Lantern provides the following safeguards:

1. Everything is tunneled in multiple layers of encryption (QUIC within DTLS and WebTransport)
2. It only allows access to whitelisted websites, preventing Lantern users from accessing any illegal content through your proxy;
3. The browser proxies forward traffic to our egress servers, so they never send traffic directly to third party sites.
