Armed crackdown on Guangdong land protest, shots fired

Radio Free Asia has reported that riot police fired shots while quelling a protest in Guangdong Province. The villagers were protesting the transfer of public land to the local government, which then sold it to a public developer for a huge profit.

A local official told a RFA reporter: “The police dispersed the protesters with a firm hand. But if you keep asking more like that I don’t dare to tell you. This affair is very sensitive.”
