As the world marks The World Day Against the Death Penalty, China’s large numbers of annual death sentences and executions once again are under the spotlight, as reported in this story, Does China execute 10,000 people a year? Perhaps in reaction to the unwanted attention, the Chinese government reportedly renews its promise to amend its criminal procedural law, including “procedure for review of death sentences and custody system in accordance with the spirit of the newly-revised Constitution and some newly-signed international conventions.”
