China’s Moving Art Scene: Pushing Into Dark New Territory

Today’s New York Times has a brief review of the Shanghai Biennale, now on exhibit at the Shanghai Museum: “Perhaps what is most shocking about this outlay of modern creations is how few of the museum’s Chinese visitors looked shocked, even at the mock mountain landscape created by a row of naked human bottoms. Only the newcomers to China seem startled, not at the art itself, but at the new and uncharted places today’s artists and art galleries in China are managing to explore. ” The full review is here.

The Australian also had a review a couple of weeks ago.
