60 Japan-China friendship groups to gather in Tokyo

Monday, April 11, 2005 at 07:06 JST TOKYO ” About 60 Japanese and Chinese friendship groups will gather in Tokyo on Tuesday amid intensifying anti-Japan protests in China.

Facing a range of bilateral issues including Japan’s bid for a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council and a history textbook row, the civic groups aim to work toward mending strained ties between the two nations and will issue a joint appeal for maintaining good relations between the countries now and into the future, organizers said.
