Vestas Wind Systems A/S (Randers, Denmark) is planning to establish a wind blade factory in China after receiving an order from Jiangsu Unipower Wind Power Co. Ltd. for 50 V80-2.0 MW wind turbines. Ordered as part of China’s Rudong Wind Power Concession project, the turbines will have a total capacity of 100 MW and are valued at $79 million (USD). The order, Vestas’ first for MW turbines from the Chinese market, includes not only wind turbines but a remote control system and service and maintenance agreements as well.
Turbines for the Rudong Wind Power Concessions project will be installed in the Jiangsu province and are expected to be commissioned in late 2006. The order is one of 20 concession projects, each of 100 MW, that China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) plans to establish before 2010. The NDRC anticipates that a total of 500,000 MW of new generating capacity will be installed in China before 2020 with a large part of the new capacity expected to be based on wind power.
