The Chinese government has cut off Tibet from the outside world for a series of celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of what Beijing calls its “autonomous” local government, according to independence campaigners.
China’s fourth most senior leader, Jia Qinglin, is presiding over a series of events in the Tibetan capital, Lhasa. Yesterday he met senior figures from local units of the People’s Liberation Army.
