Two innocents abroad learn the limits of American idealism – or the limits of their own, at least – in “No Foreigners Beyond This Point,” Warren Leight‘s wistfully funny new play about the difficulty of doing good in a society rigged to accommodate only more cynical transactions.
Produced by the Ma-Yi Theater Company and directed by Loy Arcenas, the play, which opened last night at the Culture Project, is a slight but appealing comedy based on Mr. Leight’s own experience as a teacher of English in China before he established a career as a playwright (the Tony-winning “Side Man”) and television writer (“Law & Order: Criminal Intent”).
