From Reuters, via Arab Times:
The ousted Communist Party chief of a Chinese county who wore a bullet-proof vest for years while fighting graft was himself sentenced to life in prison for corruption on Thursday, a source close to the defendant said.
Huang Jin’gao, 53, was convicted by the Nanping Intermediate People’s Court in the southeastern province of Fujian on charges of accepting bribes totalling 5.8 million yuan ($715,000), said the source, who asked not to be identified.
But supporters say embarrassed local authorities trumped up charges against Huang after the Web site of the Communist Party’s mouthpiece People’s Daily published last year his letter in which he accused his bosses of blocking corruption investigations.
