Korea Asks China to Share Information on Yellow Dust – Yonhap

From Yonhap via the Korea Times (link):

South Korea and China urgently need a system to exchange information on the yellow dust phenomenon, seasonal storms that choke the Korean Peninsula each spring, the Environment Ministry said Monday.

Yellow dust, originating from the Gobi Desert in central China, is carried over to Korea by prevailing easterly winds in April and May, reducing visibility and filling the country’s skies with a thick blanket of dusty sand.

It has recently become an environmental concern as the dust, combined with pollutants from industrial cities in eastern China, has been blamed for the increasing rate of respiratory and skin ailments and damage to the nation’s farming and industrial sectors.
