Beijing bites back on US June 4 swipe – Standard

China has reacted angrily to US comments about the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown, telling the United States not to interfere in Beijing’s internal affairs and pay attention to its own human rights problems.

“China is strongly dissatisfied with and resolutely opposes the US statement on [the] Tiananmen incident,” said foreign ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao in a statement published by Xinhua News Agency Wednesday.

“[The US statement] severely violates the basic norms guiding international relations and wantonly interferes into China’s internal affairs.” [Full text]
