Kissing Couple to Sue Metro over Video – China Daily

A couple kissing at a Shanghai metro station were videotaped and the clip was uploaded to the Internet, receiving thousands of hits recently. It’s more intriguing that the clip could have been posted by an employee of the Shanghai Metro Co. who obtained it through ubiquitous monitoring cameras installed at all the company’s metro stations. From China Daily:

A couple videotaped kissing and hugging at a metro station is to sue the Shanghai Metro Co for allowing the video to be broadcast on the Internet, the Oriental Morning Post reported Monday. [Full Text]

Some people are taking advantage of this incident to advocate for the Chinese authority’s planned crackdown on unlicensed video service web sites. From Xinhua:

Zhou Binqing, a Shanghai Information Services Association legal expert, said it was also urgent to enhance surveillance on video websites…

The expert said management of Internet audio-visual programs may be improved when a regulation issued by the country’s broadcasting, film, TV and information industry authorities takes effect on Jan. 31. [Full Text]
