A female employee who worked at a child care center for migrant workers in Shanghai reportedly attacked the children with a box-cutter, wounding eight. From BBC:
Eight children were hurt when an employee at a child-care centre for migrant workers in the Chinese city of Shanghai slashed them with a knife, local media reports say.
The attack happened around midday in the city’s Minhang district.
Reports said the attacker, a woman, had been taken into custody by police.
The Xinmin Evening News said that the woman used a box-cutter to slash the children, who were all three or four years old.
One of the children was seriously injured, the paper said.
It added that the woman, who had worked at the centre for several years, was thought to have psychiatric problems.
More details on the attack from the Associated Press:
The attack happened at noon at an informal daycare center in Shanghai’s suburban Minhang district, home to many migrant workers.
The woman was taken into custody and police were investigating, said Zhuang Liqiang, an officer in the information services department of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau. He did not provide further details.
Of the eight children sent to the hospital for treatment, four suffered light injuries and one was relatively seriously hurt, but none faced life-threatening injuries, the official Xinhua News Agency and local reports said.
The reports said the attacker had suffered a “psychotic episode.”
Shanghai’s Dragon TV showed children’s clothing at the hospital covered with blood. Doctors said they had to cut off the clothes quickly to treat the children’s injuries.
