Official: China Expels South Korean Journalists

Reporters from JoongAng Daily who were detained by Chinese security forces near the North Korean border have been expelled and are back in South Korea, AP reports:

South Korean Foreign Ministry official said Thursday that three JoongAng Ilbo daily reporters and two researchers returned home Sunday after being released a day earlier.

The official declined to be named because the release was not publicly announced. JoongAng Ilbo spokesman Cheong Chul-gun confirmed the information.

Unnamed South Korean officials have said Chinese authorities held the South Koreans at a hotel for four days after finding them traveling on tourist visas near the border with North Korea.
