Polluted skies over Beijing
As previously reported by CDT, China plans to cut automobile traffic in half, ban smoking, and close factories in an effort to make the air of Beijing safer for Olympic athletes.
Atlantic Monthly writer, James Fallows, is hopeful that the plan may work after seeing an improvement air Beijing’s quality during the Spring Festival. The city powered down for two weeks and the smog curtain lifted.
Now that the city is back to work, it’s the same old song. The air outside Fallows’ window is thick again.
