April 1st, 2009 marks the 60th Anniversary of Sino-Indian Relations. A Luncheon was held in Hong Kong to celebrate the occasion.
“China and India are friendly neighbors,” said (Lu Xinhua, commissioner of China’s Foreign Affairs Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) at the luncheon, noting that the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence advocated by leaders of the two countries in the 1950s have become generally recognized norms governing international relations.
Lu said that China-India ties have developed fast in the 21st century, thanks to efforts of both sides, and “China-India strategic and cooperative partnership for peace and prosperity has grown deeper.”
…The people of India came to Hong Kong in as early as the mid-19th century. Up to date, the 35,000-membered Indian community is already an indispensable part of the plural society of Hong Kong, contributing to Hong Kong’s development with their dynamic involvement in commerce and culture, he said.
