From The Times (link):
HOLLYWOOD tends to hold up a mirror to America’s anxieties, reflecting the country’s national neuroses of the moment. So, in the Seventies, when Americans fretted about nuclear power, film-makers responded with Jane Fonda and Jack Lemmon combating The China Syndrome.
Today, a remake of the same title would be just as appropriate, though the narrative would be about fear and loathing of a very different variety. This time it would tap into the escalating US paranoia over the rise of China and its perceived threat to American prosperity.
