About China Digital Times

Welcome to China Digital Times (CDT).

CDT is a collaborative news website covering China’s social and political transition and its emerging role in the world. We aim to aggregate the most up-to-the-minute news and analysis about China from around the Web, while providing independent reporting, translations from Chinese cyberspace, and perspectives from across the geographical, political and social spectrum.

Reader Participation
We welcome you to participate. There are various ways to contribute to China Digital Times:

* Enter your email address in the Subscribe form at the top of the front page of CDT to receive daily digests of CDT posts. You can unsubscribe from this service at any time. If you are inside China and unable to access the CDT front page, please send us an email and we will provide another option to access CDT content.
* Post comments to individual stories’ Discussion forums. We welcome and encourage you to share your views, knowledge and analysis in this way.
* E-mail a link to a relevant news story, commentary, or website to CDT editors (through the Contact Us button on the front page) to post on the site. We will select quality contributions and when appropriate, we will publicly credit contributors.
* Contribute photos through flickr.com photo-sharing site. Put a tag called “chinadigitaltimes” on any China-related photos that you want to contribute to our site. All photos tagged with chinadigitaltimes will appear on our site as part of the CDT flickr slideshow. We will also select photos to post as the site’s top photo and will credit the photographer. (Please note that due to technical limitations, we may have to crop or resize photos before posting.)

We will be creating new channels for reader participation in coming months, so stay tuned.

A Note about Sources
As part of our experimentation with participatory media, CDT uses Wikipedia (”the free-content encyclopedia that anyone can edit”) as an online resource and interactive knowledge base. However, the information in Wikipedia is constantly being generated, updated and edited by its users, and in linking to a specific entry on Wikipedia, CDT does not guarantee the quality and accuracy of the information available at any given moment. If you are a journalist or researcher and plan to use content from Wikipedia, double-checking information is a must. CDT encourages our readers to participate in the improvement and expansion of the China-related sections of Wikipedia by contributing your knowledge to the site.

Please note that we provide links to a number of news sources which have limited access to their articles. Because of this, several links in our archived posts may no longer be active. For copyright reasons, we are not able to post the full text of articles.

Other websites are welcome to repost excerpts of CDT posts as long as due credit and a link to the original source are provided. Please contact us before republishing the full text of any CDT posts.

At any time, we welcome your feedback and suggestions. China Digital Times is an experiment in participatory media, and your participation and input to the site are crucial for its success.

We look forward to seeing you online,
The China Digital Times Team
