New, fast broadband service links China, US and Russia

Qian Hualin, who helped introduce the Internet to China in the late 80s, is again on the forefront of Chinese Internet development. His new project, Gloriad, will aid communication between research institutes in three countries. The broadband service–which links China, the United States and Russia–began operating yesterday. It will help researchers in these three countries share large quantities of scientific data and is expected to play a large role in China’s Web expansion.
