Asia Times Online reported on March 4:
“China is cracking down on Internet news discussion websites in an effort to stifle dissent in the run up to the annual session of the National People’s Congress (NPC)… But the crackdown may not last very long, as Internet news discussion groups are very popular, though they have become a big headache for Beijing. ”
The article also reports that, “the US company VeriSign has given China more responsibility in the worldwide management of the Internet by assigning China a domain name system (DNS) root server, making the country one of the principal hubs of Internet traffic. ”
