The Chinese government has announced a partnership with Bill Clinton’s foundation to provide treatment for AIDS patients in China. Clinton’s efforts to distribute cheap AIDS medicine in developing countries are a slap in the face to the Bush administration’s cozy relationship with big pharmaceutical companies.
The China-Clinton cooperation comes two weeks after the Chinese government announced another plan to offer free HIV tests to all citizens. Although this is a step in the right direction, AIDS activists are skeptical of how effective it will be since there is little public knowledge about AIDS, especially in the poor, rural areas that are hardest hit by the virus.
