Premier Wen Jiabao has issued an urgent appeal to the public and government to make fighting AIDS a top priority. According to the BBC, Wen acknowledged that, “These last few years, Aids has spread very quickly over a vast area, causing serious epidemics in some parts… The epidemic is currently spreading from high risk groups to the population at large.”
In the past, government proclamations about fighting AIDS have not always been fully realized on the ground. Let’s hope that this time Wen’s words are followed up with concrete action.
