China predicts 8-9% growth this year

AP via Toronto Star: “China’s economy should grow at an annual rate of between 8 per cent and 9 per cent this year, state media reported today, citing a top statistics official.

Earlier this year, Beijing set an official growth target of 7 per cent for this year. Officials have ordered banks to curb lending and have tightened controls on land use in an effort to bring booming investment under control and limit inflation. ”
