From AP, via the CInternational Herald Tribune:

A U.S. envoy and a senior Chinese general held talks Monday and Tuesday on building closer military ties between Beijing and Washington amid tensions over Taiwan.

China has described the two days of talks as the first dialogue of its kind with Washington on defense policy. The talks involved Richard Lawless, a U.S. deputy under secretary of defense, and leaders of the People’s Liberation Army of China.
