Kathy Fong: Chinese maids going overseas to greener pastures

From The Star Online:

Chinese domestic helpers will soon have the chance to work overseas and earn bigger salaries.

Chinese housekeepers, who are commonly called ayi in China, are in high demand in Canada because the Filipino maids are generally not suitable for Chinese families as they can’t understand Chinese dialects and don’t know the Chinese traditions.

Domestic helpers working in Shanghai are considered suitable for this post.

Shanghai Laibang Household Service, a housekeeping service provider, is co-operating with the Academy for Enrichment Studies Canada in sending domestic helpers from here to work for overseas Chinese families in Toronto.
