China will keep the yuan in a small range as it gradually implements a more flexible exchange rate, a top official has said, giving the clearest sign so far of the degree of currency movement the country is planning.
China had done a lot of groundwork for reform of the exchange rate system, which now holds the yuan in a range of 8.276 to 8.28 per dollar, the China Securities Journal on Saturday quoted Guo Shuqing, head of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, as saying.
