The Chinese government will take environmental protection as an important indicator in evaluating local officials’ achievements.
The State Environmental Protection Administration has proposed taking four factors into account: implementation of laws and regulations on environmental protection, the amount of pollution, changes in environment quality and satisfaction of the general public.
The new policy will be tested in North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the southwest province of Sichuan and the eastern province of Zhejiang.
