Gas explosion traps 51 Chinese miners

A large gas explosion Thursday in a coal mine in northern China has left at least 51 workers trapped, and their chances of survival were unclear, a mine official said.

The accident occurred around 3:20 a.m. at the Nuan’erhe Colliery in Hebei province, when around 70 miners were working underground, said the mine’s duty officer.
